EPISODE 6: The Luteal Phase
The luteal phase gets its bad rap because this is the part of the cycle where PMS symptoms start showing up, you may feel more tired and irritable and the only thing you want to do is chill while binge eating comfort foods because you feel hungry ALL THE TIME.
But what if I tell you that the science behind these feelings is actually fascinating?
You see the luteal phase is characterized by an increase of the hormone progesterone, our “zen hormone” and this enhances the need to stay home and rest, something that I like calling the “nesting effect”. And not only that, but it also boosts our metabolism [so you burn calories faster] hence the fact of needing more food. And this all happens because your body is so freakin’ cool that it wants you to be as relaxed as possible and as nurtured as possible in case an egg was fertilized! WOAHHH
However if nobody explains to us how to nurture ourselves during this phase then this is when sugar cravings skyrocket and the mood swings can get out of control…
That’s exactly why in today’s episode of Tuning in with Your Cycle I am covering:
🌜What happens in your body during the luteal phase hormone-wise?
🌜Why do you feel hungrier during this phase?
